A day with ruby-oci8 and natty

After more than half a day of searching through the net with the help of Mr. Google, at long last I have successfull installed ruby-oci8 on Natty Narwhal. If anyone's interested, you can also follow the steps below (or you can visit "http://www.inlinecomment.com/")

1.) For this installing I'am using Sql Developer

2.) Download the Instant Client Basic and Instant Client SDK (http://www.oracle.com)

3. )

$ sudo mkdir -p /opt/oracle

$cd /opt/oracle

$sudo unzip /path to /downloads/instantclient-basic*.zip

$sudo unzip /path to /downloads/instantclient-sdk*.zip

$cd instantclient_11_2

$sudo ln -s libclntsh.so.11.1 libclntsh.so

$LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/oracle/instantclient_11_2

$export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

4.) Go to your home directory and do

sudo env LD_LIBRARY_PATH =/opt/oracle/instantclient_11_2 /usr/bin/gem install ruby-oci8

5.) Wait until your gem is successfully installed

6.) To verify gem list ruby-oci8
